Sabbatical Report

My sabbatical week is over now. It's hard to say good-bye to such a fun time, but I'm so happy that I did it. And I'm excited to fill you in on how it went and what I did. I'm so pleased to say I finished three pieces, and I'm going to focus on one of them today, Lepore con Fiori.

It is so exciting to work with metallics. But there's also a down side, which is that they don't photograph well. For me, that's meant that I'd be reluctant to use them on anything I'd want to reproduce. But, I formed that opinion some years ago and maybe current technology makes it doable. I'll have to look into that and report back next week.

Meanwhile, I decided it would be a nice change of pace to create a little video about this piece rather than write it all out.

Here it is, and I hope you enjoy it.

Next week, I'll be talking about my second piece from last week. It's more on the lines of an icon and features two bears. Hope to see you back then!

What paint did you use for the turquoise random soft marks in the background in the hare painting? Also, what green did you use? I love the bounce and warmth of the spring background. And, of course, little hare!

Thanks, Stephanie! I developed a real connection with her as I was painting, and I think she's happy surrounded by all the flowers and pretty ornamentation!
