I began my writing and illustrating career with Milkweed Manor and loved every moment. The characters - hares, raccoon, rats, fox, owls, crows, squirrels - and their stories mean so much to me and still live in my heart. There very well may be more Milkweed books in my future, but I'm so pleased to introduce you to two other books - other animal fiction - each of which may well lead to a series of its own. Scarlet had been an excellent student and was thrilled to finish her elementary education a whole semester early. She had so many exciting ideas about how to spend the extra time before she was to begin her Advanced Studies.

But mama had different ideas. It was the perfect opportunity for Scarlet to spend time with her grandfather, who lived at such a distance that their interactions had been limited.

Not surprisingly, Scarlet was not on board with the idea. Yet, she must go, and so she did.

As it turned out, that spring and summer would be the perfect launch to the next chapter of her life!

The Community at Evangeline's Rise - the Saga begins

Virtually every day, I drive by a quaint church, complete with tall steeple, lovely windows, and a churchyard with rows of gravestones nestled at the edge of the neighboring wood.​
​
One day, I imagined a mouse living in a nest in the building's walls and wondered what her life must be like.
​
Thus began the stories of mice Evangeline and Oliver and how they became the first settlers of the lovely spot which came to be known as "Evangeline's Rise."
