Have you ever tried paper clay? It's such a fun medium. Readily available at craft stores or online, it's an air-dry clay which accepts acrylic paint beautifully. I love to use it to make birds, and I've made several, from chickens, to sparrows, but mostly birds which have hatched from my imagination - like this one!
