This mixed media collage spotlights my favorite bird, the crow. Crows have different mystic meanings in different cultures, but oftentimes it's negative. I, however, find these bids intelligent, playful, and a joy to observe. In the Celtic tradition, crows act as intermediaries between the physical and spiritual realms, and this interpretation speaks to me. "Bran," by the way, means "crow" in Welsh.
I've packed this piece full of texture. Some is done with paint - extensive layers and washes, and accents of metallic and rust paints. Collage elements also contribute to the texture - rusted metal stars, tiny glass beads, bits of text and other papers, and hand written text in which I express my admiration for these remarkable souls.
This evocative and rustic piece is framed in recycled weathered wood. The image size is 14" wide by 11" tall while the framed size is 17 3/4" x 14 3/4".
This original piece is $475 (free shipping within the continental US).
